Challenge: FIU did not offer a way for prospective students (graduate or undergraduate level) to request program-specific information in one simple step for any program. The University needed an inquiry form on the homepage that would allow someone to instantly choose a program and have someone be notified that they were looking for assistance or wanted to know more about it.

Institutional Branding

Challenge: In previous years, in an effort to increase enrollment, FIU departments and programs had submitted individual ads to a special section of the Miami Herald focusing on Education. There was no thought to presenting one consistent message throughout the ads, or branding of the University as a whole. The Marketing Department launched a campaign to develop an institutional advertising initiative and secure voluntary buy-in of all departments who previously produced separate program specific advertising. Graduate Enrollment Marketing – Spring/Summer 2005

Challenge: Address the enrollment decrease of 25% by attracting more prospective students and retaining their interest in the university. It has been estimated that 1000 new students are needed for the fall semester. Factoring in the part time and full time applicants and the retention rate after applying- 5000 applicants are needed to hedge the shortage. Download PDF file
Marketing of the FIU License Plate 2005

Challenge: Increase sales of the FIU license plate to produce revenue and gain name
recognition in the community with the advertising the plates generate.
Prior to the redesign and release of the new FIU Golden Panther Plate in 2003
annual revenue was stagnate at approximately $40,000. Promotion of the new
plate did produce a slight increase to $44,000 however we believe more was
possible.

FIU Licensing and Merchandise 2005

Challenge: Increase sales of the FIU merchandise to produce revenue and gain name
recognition in the community with the advertising the FIU gear.
There is a significant management and maintenance responsibility with licensing.
Annual contracts, proof of insurance, quality control and policing of vendors are

FIU “On Hold” Recording
Challenge: Better utilize the on-hold time where callers are a captive audience. Rather than music, educate and impress the callers with recordings about our “points of pride” and accomplishments. Maintain a cost effective and easily managed approach to ensure the speed of future updates.
