Director
Josefina Cagigal joined the FIU team 10 years ago as director
of Operations for the Office of the President. In 1996, she
became the founding director of the Office of Community Relations,
which is responsible of planning, managing and executing some
the university’s largest and most high profile events.
Her international background and fluency in English, Spanish
and French serve as a valuable asset in protocol and the visit
of high-level dignitaries.
Assistant Director
Ann Goodrich came to FIU in January 1974, as an acquisitions
assistant in the library. In 1975, she joined university Computer
Services as supervisor of Computer Operations, and then became
Assistant Director of SERDAC, (Southeast Regional Data Center).
She has served the University in many capacities; an annual
award was named for her in 1996, “The Ann H. Goodrich
Volunteer of the Year Award” and is awarded each year
to an employee for their outstanding volunteer service to the
University. She has been “Outstanding Employee of the
Year” three different years in her tenure at FIU. She
was also a Presidential Award Finalist in 1996. Ann is currently
Assistant Director in the Office of Community Relations.
Institutional Events Team
Olga Hernández came to FIU in December 1986, as an Administrative Assistant in the Office of the President. During her 18-year tenure in the President’s Office, she served in many capacities such as the Director of the President’s University House and Office Manager. She joined the Community Relations group in September of 2004 where she assumed her current position of Event Coordinator. Olga’s is the lead coordinator dedicated to protocol events, such as Building Dedications, Groundbreakings and Ribbon Cuttings.
Sandra Jimenez is the event coordinator in the Office
of Community Relations and was the Customer Service Employee
of the Month for July 2003. Since assuming her current job
in February of 2001, she has managed the many facets of Commencement
ceremonies and has interacted with many divisions and departments
within the University, including the president and provost’s
offices. She coordinates 10 ceremonies per year in addition
to other institutional events.
Lynda Romaguera came to FIU in September of 2002. She is an
event coordinator in the Office of Community Relations and
the assistant to the commencement coordinator. She has assisted
in the organizing of events such as faculty convocation in
October of 2002 and freshman convocation in August of 2003.
She specializes in presidential lectures and is responsible
for the planning and execution of events such as the visit
of Hans Kung and His Excellency Jorge Batlle.
