Torch Society Induction Ceremony on January 28, 2007

“The act of philanthropy is a spiritual act, an expression of caring for one's fellow human beings. It is a belief in the future and that the future can be good. It is investing in that future. It is helping to make the dream come true.” – by Arthur Frantzreb

Philanthropic support is one of the most essential factors in helping to sustain our University’s traditions and academic excellence. On Sunday, January 28, 2007, FIU had the honor of inducting 26 individuals and corporations into the prestigious Torch Society.

The society recognized our university’s most generous benefactors into two giving levels: Gold and Silver Flame. Gold Flame members’ total giving have exceeded more than $1 Million, and Silver Flame members have contributed more than $500,000. The induction ceremony, held in the spirit of a traditional academic commencement ceremony, was followed by an evening reception in the open-air rotunda of the Herbert & Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.
