As we celebrate Florida International University’s growth as an institution, I am amazed at how much our public university has accomplished in only three decades. With 17 schools and colleges, more than 90,000 alumni, and several campuses in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, FIU has made a tremendous impact on our community and has an even greater future in store. As the chairman of the President's Council, I am both honored to be head of this prestigious group and inspired to make it yet another successful year for our Council and the University.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our members, we have many exciting accomplishments to build on. This fall we continued the tradition of bestowing the Faculty Award upon an accomplished member of FIU's Faculty. In recent years we have assisted FIU in securing its Downtown MBA center, expanding the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, and stood steadfast behind the University's pursuit of a College of Medicine.

This year, in addition to promoting FIU, we will aim to enhance our mission by becoming more involved and working with others outside the Council. Increased participation will help fulfill the goals of the University to boost private financial support and the visibility of FIU. In doing so we can focus on recruiting new members to the Council and raising the level of involvement of our current members. As volunteers we have the ability to influence many in our community. Let’s capitalize on this opportunity to make a difference.
