Corporate Relations: Policies & Procedures

The Office of Corporate Relations at FIU facilitates and coordinates campus relationships with major corporations. We seek support for institutional priorities and for major gifts and multidisciplinary projects that may involve two or more schools, colleges, academic units or campus programs. We ensure that FIU’s approaches to corporate funders are coordinated, fully developed and well-matched.

Corporate relations will work closely with other units that interface regularly with corporations – including research, vending and student recruitment to leverage effectively a company’s total involvement, generate increase financial support and develop comprehensive, long-term corporate partnerships. To create the most effective partnership we interface extensively with the separate Colleges and Schools at FIU. Colleges and Schools at FIU have separate development staff with whom Corporate Relations works to develop the strongest possible relationships with corporations and their foundations.

Corporate relations is responsible for coordinating fund raising strategies, proposals and solicitations, to the corporate sector. By coordinating our contacts with corporate funders, the University builds and strengthens good relationships with corporations. Many corporations will only accept one proposal per year from a nonprofit organization. The Office of Corporate Relations strives to match the best possible funding source with the best possible project at FIU in accordance with the funder’s interests and guidelines and FIU’s priorities.

Development Policies

All faculty, staff and development officers shall work with corporate relations to coordinate development to ensure effective solicitations. Development officers are asked to utilize corporate relations as a resource in planning communications and strategies. This will ensure that the proposed project or solicitation meets the benefactor’s guidelines and interests, and prevent multiple simultaneous solicitations.

Corporate Relations also maintains an updated list of FIU’s key multi-unit corporate prospects. Development officers are encouraged to assist Corporate Relations in updating these records. Faculty and staff that have ongoing relationships with University prospects are required to collaborate with Corporate Relations in developing solicitation strategies.
