To maximize the University’s chances to receive support,
and recognizing that the best results will often come from
joint efforts involving the colleges and units, their development
officers and deans, Corporate Relations will assist and advise
all unit development officers in effective cultivation and
solicitation strategies and when appropriate, assist with proposal
development.
What we do
- Offer leadership and guidance to those on campus who engage
or wish to engage in corporate fundraising
- Provide briefings and make arrangements for visits to corporations
by FIU leadership. Facilitate visits to campus by corporate
representatives
- Provide research information on corporations and suggest,
or help to identify, appropriate sources of funding for particular
projects
- Keep current on corporate giving trends to assist FIU
faculty and administration in strategy development
- Review proposals and, if appropriate, assist in their writing.
Work with University faculty and administration to develop
proposals that suit funders interest.
How we can help
- An institution of FIU’s size and scope must be assured
that all proposal submitted to corporations are coordinated
by a central office, so that one area of the University does
not unwittingly subvert another’s efforts. Corporate
Relations is responsible for that coordination.
- Without coordination by this office, a fund-raiser unaware
of FIU’s strategy might submit a request for several
thousand dollars that would preclude the approval of a request
in the six or seven figure range.
- The need for coordination is not an obstacle. Your cooperation
with us will greatly increase the likelihood of your receiving
external support since we strive to ensure quality proposals
are submitted at the right time to the best potential source
of funding.
- In addition to helping find the right prospects, we will
review your proposal to ensure maximum effectiveness. We
can also assist in providing the necessary University information.
Finally, after we have received support for a project, we
will assist in regards to stewardship obligations and management.
- The Office of Corporate Relations and the Office of Research
and Prospect Management can provide you with the prospect
information you need to build your donor base.
